Aromatherapy and Essential Oils Defined
Aromatherapy has become a widely-used term that is well known as the use of pure, therapeutic grade plant-based essential oils used to facilitate the health of the body, mind and spirit, thus creating balance. What a better way to do this than to apply their use to even the most mundane of tasks, like cleaning?
Aromatherapy is a holistic therapy that has ancient roots and dates back to over 5,000 years ago. It is no wonder advanced civilizations such as China, Greece, India and Egypt acquired advanced knowledge of aromatic materials and their benefits. Plant-based therapy was used in medicine, pharmacy, beauty products, therapeutic massage and in spiritual and sacred rituals. Essential oils permeated every aspect of ancient daily life, and it can be assumed that it was even used for cleaning purposes as well.
Upon its resurgence in the 20th century, essential oils have become the treatment of choice in the realm of holistic remedies. They are used once again in every aspect of our modern daily life, including the everyday uses of cleaning and sanitizing our homes. Imagine, being able to have a spiritual moment while using lavender oil in your commode! Essential oils can be used in every room of the home and are used for many mood therapies. They can be calming or stimulating; they can energize, create mental clarity, have a relaxing effect, and some fragrances are even are thought to interact with the body’s ability to product pain-fighting substances. The everyday use of these oils in our modern-day rituals can enhance our lives in ways we never imagined. Gone are the days of cleaning with toxic fumes and harsh chemicals.
